Having fun here at Ft. Indiantown Gap, PA in pldc. It is my fourth day here, where I've been playing 1SG. All NG or Reserve types here, and I'll have to say everyone seems motivated. But I'll see how everyone is doing a few days from now. Something interesting, apparantly for the NG they have a "pre-Basic Training Course" that lasts five days or so. Talk about seeing some shell shocked kids. Drill Sergeants get ahold of them and smoke em pretty good.

Have fun! Too bad you couldn't attend a REAL NCO Academy like at Ft. Bragg....[]

I went to PLDC at Ft. Indiantown Gap as well. It actualy in my opinion was an excellent program when I went there. Now while it is only a 2 week program, the same exact course material is covered as in the Active Duty Version. So basicaly you cover all the Classroom and Tests, D&C, plus the field work in half the time. So while it is only a 2 week course that is the only major difference. Yeah I could have at the time gone to Ft. Polk for 4 weeks or do the 2 weeks plus my AT. I chose the latter so I could do both PLDC and AT. I didn't want to miss the field training with my Unit.

It was hillarious when I went through. As you all know PLDC is not MOS specifiic like BNCOC so there is a varitey of from combat arms to support. The land nav course at the NCO academy in Baumholder Germany had a very simple course. You had to point out the 5 major terrain features on a map, determine the 6 digit grid of your starting point and then find either 3 or 4 points (I can't recall now it was 15 years ago) on the course with the longest leg being around 1800-2000 meters. The fear in young support troops eyes was hillarious. I must have gotten stopped by 10 diffrent groups while on the course asking where they were and to double check there six digit grid they had plotted at the beginning.
And like all of those infamous double standards that they say didn't exsist at the academy me and 5 other 11B's covered the course 3 times with a diffrent person. Once on our actual test and then 2 more times with folks who NO-Go'd the first time so they could get through the course. On the first day I was paired with an E-5 finance puke, I had to show her how to open the compass, and why the bezel ring turned.

lrsd, I went through the Gap PLDC back in 88. Just you wait until you get to the land nav portion. I checked my map, set my compass, looked up to take a heading and I saw the first stake about 400 meters away. What a joke. Have fun.
