When I was shopping for a jumping unit with the AF, one of the recruiters I talked to said that he had a jump slot as a crew chief. I have never heard of this, and all of the research Ive done has come back as negative. So was this recruiter FOS or does the AF/ANG really have Jump Slots for Crew Chiefs? The recruiter I talked to by the way was with the Michigan ANG at Selfridge.

As an ANG Crew Chief, I would say your chances are somewhere between not bloody likely, and completely nonexistent. If you want to jump in the ANG, I would strongly suggest you look for a unit with TACPs, PJs or the like. These units are few and far between. A while back, Idaho (124th ASOS)had a couple of traditional TACP slots open, and jump school was an option for them. I don't know if anybody in that squadron is currently jumping, but I have heard rumours that in the future they will be supporting 19th SFG, which is a Guard group. Depending on the unit, some have flying Crew Chiefs which may or may not get flight pay (we don't). If you want to spend time sweating your a$$ off in the back of a C-130, go be a Loadmasher.

There are two rules to success in life...

Rule #1: Don't tell people everything you know.

Thats pretty much what I thought, I am a "loadmaster" in my day job for Delta Airlines and the thought of doing it on the weekends as well makes me want to heave. No thanks, I stick to my current slot.

SN, I finally got a jump slot at the 146th Weather Flight in PA, thanks for the input though. Barring getting transferred by Delta I will be leaving for tech school in sep/oct. I guess I can tell people I was "with Delta" now at bars, hell Ill even have a ID card to prove it!
