What are the requirements for officer school, is there a diff version of officer school for each branch or is there one school for all branches? Can anyone possibly give me a list of the choices you can put down, I heard you list 3 possible jobs you want to be when your an officer like infantry or something. One last question if you dont mind, if say you get selected for infantry officer ro anything is there any chance you can request to be stationed at a certain base and belong to a certain unit.. like lets just say the 82nd, would you just have to do basic, ait and abn school and your officer school then your a CO Lt. in the airborne.. its thats simple? Thanks in advance!

OK, I don't know anything about your question, but I take it you are new to the military? At least that's what I assume from your sig. If so, I would take that Airborne Regt cap badge down. Unless you've served in that unit, it's insulting those who have. And somebody's gonna get royally pissed about it.

And we still don't know anything about you other than you're in Canada, and that doesn't say much, 'cause we've already got some Canadians, why do we want more? (Sorry PC, only thing I could think of [ ][fight]). To solve that it would be greatly appreciated if you do two things:
1)Fill out your profile.
2)Go introduce yourself at the reception forum. That's why it's there.
Anyway, don't step on anybody's toes. They're great people, as you have already found out. Anywhere else people wouldn't be so understanding as the awesome people here. So enjoy your time here and do the two things noted above to stay in the good graces of these guys and gals. AC.

Think there's an answer to his question in the benning website. Since he's canadian, does he bring labatt's?

PC, yeah, that's him. And he still hasn't filled out his profile. Ahh, well. We'll see how long he'll last here with his attitude. [bomb][bomb] AC.

Here's a quick and dirty answer to the question:
1. Commissioning options-officers are commissioned from one of four ways a)West Point(or other service academy) extremely difficult to get an appointment and requires a six year commitment after graduation; b)ROTC, program at various colleges around the Country, mostly civilian, that requires studies in Military Science; c)Officer Candidate School-for college graduates who are just entering service, you have to become a soldier and the course is six or nine months long(can't remember off the top of my head); d)direct commissioning-for prior service soldiers who have subsequently earned their degree, I think this is a NG program, which means you must be in the Guard to qualify. For the first three options there is an advanced camp on military skills one summer, and one summer where certain HOOAH schools are possible, Airborne and Air Assault schools being the primary ones.
2. While in school an officer lists the branches starting with the branch he wants the most as number one and so on down the list. They also get to list preferred assignments, I believe they have three choices in this. But the final word on branch and station are made by the Army. Most new officers will attend BAC and assignments to the 82nd are few and far between. So getting an airborne assignment upon completion of training is no guarantee. If you are combat arms you will be expected to attend and successfully complete Ranger School.
3. Once commissioned an officer has to go through the basic course for his branch. These courses are offered at the home base for the branch, i.e.Infantry at Benning, Armor at Knox, Engineer at Leonard Wood, etc. It is only after successfully completing these courses that an officer will be allowed to attend Ranger School and, for those that didn't get it in college, Airborne School.
As an officer rises in rank he will have to attend higher level schools, the Officer Advanced Course for his branch, Command and General Staff College, War College and whatever other schools the service requires.
Now that I've given you an answer to your question how about complying with what the others in this topic have told you.

Barry,
unlikely. This clown was told to take that cap badge down on three separate threads. He didn’t. He was told to report in properly on two threads. He didn’t. He came in here spouting crap to men who know better about snipers and Canadian Spec Ops. Here are the high lights of his responses to the BTDTs on the other site: quote: Ok chill out, no one answered my question in the other forum, instead all I got was flames and comments telling me to post here so thats what I did, give me a break already
