Just purchased a WWII Marine Dress uniform at an estate sale. The Patch on the Jacket left shoulder has "FMF-PAC" It has an Eagles head on top of patch, and what looks like a red hand holding crossing lightning bolts in the center. The Marines name was D.B. Buntin, he was an E-5. The uniform has the Marine Sharpshooter medal, The American Campaign Medal, The Asiatic Pacific Campaign, The World War II Service Medal, and the Wounded Duck Patch. Any of you Marines on p.net have any information on FMF-PAC during WWII. I ran a couple searches on the www. but did not get a lot of useful information other than the FMF-PAC was in the Pacific theater, Headquartered in Hawaii.
Thanks RJ [thup]

quote: Gen. Holland M. Smith established the Headquarters for Fleet Marine Forces Pacific in 1944 to command and resource Pacific Marine Forces of nearly 500,000. At that time, FMFPAC included six Marine divisions and five Aircraft Wings. MarForPac moved into the present Headquarters -- an abandoned World War II Hospital -- in 1955. This Camp is dedicated to General Smith. At that time, as FMFPAC, this Headquarters worked for the Navy -- the U.S. Pacific Fleet. . However, in 1992, Marine Forces Pacific was designated a Service Component Headquarters. Today MarForPac has three operational bosses: the Commander-in-Chief Pacific Command, Commander-in-Chief Central Command and Commander, U.S. Forces Korea. MarForPac is also responsible to the Commandant of the Marine Corps.
The above comes from globalsecurity.com.
From what it sounds like, FMF-PAC was a predecessor of Marine Forces Pacific and was the equivalent to a very large Corps, or Army headquarters, providing C2 for the divisions and air wings in the theater. Sounds like Buntin was a headquarters type.

Ben, thanks a million for the info. I used google and bigfoot searches did find out the 1st Marine Div was part of FMFPAC. Those search engines are getting full of commericial crap. I also searched the FMFPAC patches, but was unable to identify the one on the Uniform. By the design, my guess would be Sgt Buntin was in some sort of commo section. Again, thanks for the info, really appreciate it.
It seems kinda sad that family would get rid of a loved one's uniform and medals, etc. I go to a lot of estate auctions, especially ones with Military items, and I see this stuff being sold by family members all the time. I recently purchased a 82nd Abn Summer Dress uniform complete with SP/4 chevrons, patch. etc. Right out of the 50's, just like the one I wore. Oh well, its their call.

Sh0t, that's the patch. Do you know what specific Battalion or Regiment, or MOS it represents? Thanks Bro, really appreciate the picture and your time and effort to provide it. I also checked out the link you gave. No matter what branch of the Military one serves in, or even if no Military experience at all, everyone knows the Marines are fierce warriors with an outstanding reputation of bravery and comradery.
