Since we get asked a lot of the same questions here, why not collaborate on a FAQ? Come up with a list of frequently asked questions, then post the FAQ under a header that says something like "FAQ: Please read this first before asking any questions."

Questions that seem to be coming up often are things like:

I'm in high school and want to be a Paratrooper/Ranger/Green Beret/Navy SEAL. What should I do?

I'm in college and I want to be a Paratrooper/Ranger/Green Beret/Navy SEAL. What should I do?

I'm in College and I want to be an Officer. What should I do?

I'm thinking of joining the National Guard/Reserves and want to be a Paratrooper/Green Beret. Can I do that?

What kind of jobs can you do in Airborne/Ranger/Special Forces units?

Does the Air Force have any Elite/Special Operations units? What kind of jobs do they have?

Does the Marine Corps have any Airborne Units? What are they and what do they do?

If I join the Reserves/National Guard, what are the chances that I'll be deployed?

What are living conditions like in Basic Training/AIT/Jump School/Garrison/Deployment?

How often do units go to the field? What are their living conditions like?

Where are the Airborne/Ranger/Special Forces units located? [not tactical locations, obviously, thinking more in terms of "where can I be stationed and still be in the AB/R/SF?"]

My recruiter says I don't need to get Airborne/Ranger/SF in my contract, I can volunteer for it at basic. Is he telling the truth?

....and so on.

Anyway, I think we can come up with a set of suitable questions, and then a group of volunteers can work on the answers, which would have to pass muster with the Webmaster, of course! [B)] I think having such a FAQ to answer BASIC questions would mean that by the time people got around to asking specific questions, they would be able to focus those questions more directly.

Anyone else think this is a good idea? I'd be happy to volunteer my help for some (but not all) of the questions (and questions in the FAQ related to recruiting topics should really be handled by recruiters, preferably with the appropriate reg citations to back them up.)

Martin, I was sure you were volunteering to set it up.[] Actually, I believe there are some sticky topics already with some of those answers.

doesn't soc.net have something similar?

Something that could happen with that is that there would be alot more push ups being done by people who don't read it.

It would be a good idea in my opinion. AC.

Rigger already has an "FAQ" thread per se. Maybe add something like "FADAQ" (frequently asked dumb ass questions) or "FARQ" (frequently asked redunduant questions) or "FAWBQ" (frequently asked wannabee questions) or "FANQ" (frequently asked newbie questions). I am suggesting these tongue in cheek of course.[] Actually I think it is an idea worth pursuing. [^]

Great idea.

Soc.net has exactly that AC, so might we ....appropriate, as the Marines always say, some of their answers on to our own para.net FAQ? (evil grin)
