One of the women at work was going home the other night (she works 3-11)  and hit a Deer about 3 miles from her house ,she lives out in the county, the deer hit her on the pass. side door puting a large dent in it and cracking the side window she could still drive the car so she went home to call the Sheriff because she did not have her cell phone with her the Sheriff came out and looked at her car and filled out a report ,Then he gave her a ticket for leaveing the seen of a accident is that fair?

Not sure about myself, . . .but that is what I would want my HH6 to do.

I am sure the road she was on was less-traveled, and obviously rural.  I am sure any fair-minded judge would have wanted his daughter or wife to do just as she did.

IMO this LE probably drives around at night with his "Aviator Sun Glasses and a ticket-book in his hand.

I have never heard of such a thing here in Illinois. I have hit and killed two deer in the past 25 years. The only requirement I am aware of is that you must get the deer off the highway so that it does not present a hazard to other drivers. I never have called the Sheriff, I did call the Game Warden the first time I hit one, but he said it wasn't necessary to call anyone. I never had to provide an accident report to get my Insurance Company to take care of the damage. All I had to do was to show the Insurance Adjuster the blood and guts all over my car.  Of course laws are different in different States.

That's BS. I don't think the lady should have been given a ticket for leaving the scene of an accident. If it was just her and the deer what was the harm? I hit a deer in Wisconsin about 10 years ago up North near Black River Falls. The deer flipped over the roof of my car and landed in the ditch along the left side of the road; it later died. The car was driveable so I went home to call it in. The Sheriff was not concerned. He said you can file an accident report for insurance purposes as the damage was in excess of $500. As there were no other vehicles involved and the animal was out of traffic there was no further action I needed to take. I think I got the form from the State DMV. My buddy asked the Sheriff about the venison, but that was about it.

Well she should have told the Deputy that she hit the deer on purpose, therefore it wasn't an "accident", what a jerk, cops like this just make (the rest of us in Law Enforcement) our jobs harder. She should call the Solicitor ans explain the situation, hopefully the Solicitor will decline to prosecute and just dismiss the case.

Stand in the door!

GO TO COURT AND MAKE THE DEPUTY LOOK LIKE AN ASS!!

I hate self important morons that give my chosen profession a bad name.

In my jurisdiction, they kill more deer with cars than with firearms. When they are on the move we average 5-10 deer wrecks a night. Usually we get the call from the driver from their house and we just go out and take the report. Except for one time there usually isn't any drama, I had one fool who called us to his house on a Sunday at about 2PM. He told us that he had hit a deer on his way home Saturday night. Only problem was that instead of fur, blood and guts, we find tree bark in the radiator. Needless to say , he got cased for Leaving the Scene. Guess he had to wait until his blood alcohol was closer to zero before calling.
