Re cherry:
Foot powder should be fine, you can bring it yourself. As for your books, etc. you'll be able to stick it in with your civvie stuff but it may make it easier if you toss it before you get there. You will fly on commercial planes (at least when I went you did).

PX trips will be virtually nonexistent - my advice is to pack a "shaving kit" with your essentials - razor, soap, shaving cream, etc. Anything not essential creates more to deal with for you.
