Ranger2,

Below please find the current TO&E for the Infantry Company Light(Airborne) company headquarters(TOE 07037c000). Looks pretty much like it was in the sixties and seventies except I believe we had a supply clerk as well. The great thing is that there are NO vehicles assigned as there were back then(the company does get one 1-1/4 attached from battalion as needed).

01 E5 54B2P GAM NBC NCO
01 E4 92Y1P QAP ARMORER
01 E3 11B1P ADQ RADIO TELEPHONE OPR

The TOE's for light infantry and air assault companies mirror this one. There are 31x troops in the TOE for the battalion tactical center. The platoon headquarters TOE lists one E3 11B1P RTO on the company net. The platoon leader, platoon sgt and the squad ldrs carry platoon net radios. In the past, the platoon leader and the platoon sergeant both had company net radios and RTO's, so that's a change.

Ranger2, when I was there it was mostly 11b RTOs but there was a few 31C at the platoon level. I believe the reason then was simply not enough 31Cs volunteering for Batt. But I could be wrong hell that was a long time ago and I went a little different direction after that. The guy I replaced was 11b. This was back in the 85-86 time frame.

An opinion can be argued with; a conviction is best shot. T.E Lawrence

You're not doing yourself any favors. RangerRios is one the top guys on paratrooper.net. high speed? You're damn right he's HIGH SPEED, unlike you. This quote is what you posted (check page 3):

Lastly, I've heard the 509th was a ranger reject unit
So, you didn't DIRECTLY insult Barry. You insulted an ENTIRE "F"in' unit in the U.S. Army. I doubt that ANY 509th veteran would care to be characterized as being in a "ranger reject unit". Yes, you are long winded, and post too much crap. Try THINKING about what you're gonna post before typing. I'm sure RangerRios will have an even harsher reply to you than this! [!]

Hmmm. Might be too late.

Farmer40 thanks for the info but in the Ranger batts things took on a different twist sometimes because you had to have volunteers and then they had to make it through RIP. So at times you would have slots designed for one MOS filled by another just because you had to. So slots that should have been 31C would be filled by 11B's. Also most of the HQ both at company and Batt level would usually end up being 11B, both clerks and otherwise. At least it could end up that way if you didn't have volunteers or if you had RIP failures

I know at times in my company we had four or five 31X's but then someone would get dx'ed or hurt or fail a school and then you would be down to two or even one. The same for a regular squad too though, at times it would be 12 then all of a sudden it was only five.

The Ranger Batts were authorized to be overstrength but I never saw it, but at times you might find one area with more Rangers than authorized especially in speciality MOS's. They still had to pass RIP though and that could cause problems.

Anything I have read, seen or done has shown that you DONT want a cherrie humping your radio. That radio is your greatest weapon when your on patrol (if you can get coms that is, antenna "theory"). If your compromised your screwed. Now cherries make great ARTOs, let them carry the extra batteries and stuff.

I ask again. Did you earn your tab or serve in a Ranger unit? I did and I would never use the term "ranger reject" as losely as you did.

Lastly, I've heard the 509th was a ranger reject unit, does that mean that's true or anything deeper. Probably not but the point is, like the justice system, there is push and pull between attorneys, judges, cops and the public and you're going to hear or see things and if you see or hear them often enough you know it's not just a single case of sour grapes.

Is the entire quote about the 509th, and it says probably not, and implies you have heard it enough to possibly believe it.
