Well in the 82nd we didn't let cherries hump the radio. That was reserved for a squared away and experienced PFC or SPC.

But then again on a LRRP team, every member had some prior experience in a line unit before going to the LRRP unit.

That's what I assumed after reading the first LRRP book that it was just that particular Team.
With the books I've read, about LRRPS/LRPS, 101st, 173rd these guys where fresh outta basic/ait/bac, in country in some cases only days. some only had a few months in service, either way, once they volunteered and passed that 2 week LRRP trainning, they got to hump the (pr*ck) as they reffered to it.

Maybe the Ranger vets and LRRP/LRP's on this site who served in VN might be able to set me straight. Cos now this is nagging me.

Bouncer, Don, you two out there?

CW, Bouncer never served in Vietnam.
As far as a cherry being an RTO. That is a complete no go! The books you are reading are about the military in a completly differnt era. A cherry would NEVER be slotted as an RTO in todays Army.

Knocking out 20, only amount I can do right now.
For some reason I assumed Bouncer was a VN era Ranger.

I still am, but been doing lite pushups since yesterday. I'd like to try avoding the Physical Therapy that has me doing curls with 3 pd weights, and pushups with one of those assist machines.

The RTO had to be a squared away troop. Often you had to leave CEOI tasks up to him along with predetermined comm's if you left him at an OP or back 50m as you'd bound through an area.

LOL, or with a 10x increment I could be the 325guy but not meaning the 325 PIR!

Bite your tounge! In deference to its glider heritage, the 325 AIRBORNE Infantry Regiment has a different designator than its PIR superiors down Ardennes. []

Yeah, I would agree with that 100%.[][:o)]
