I may have avoided that Duty, but certainly not any others. I pulled plenty of guard duty on Bragg. Heavy Drop Site was always fun. Down at green ramp guarding our vehicles and ammo. Not too mention the "Hey You" details and the dreaded Drop Zone Police Call. Out there filling fighting positions and picking up trash. Found some spare TA-50 though.

I remember BLSA duty, and DESPO and chute details. All before the sham shield of course. I laugh when I think about how cool Italy actually was. I have a picture of me as an E-2 on chute detail standing in the back of a duece and a half, all sweaty with my polypro shirt under my basic training issue winter weights. Always packed a roll of Copehagen for BLSA. Yeah baby, good times.

| Hey K-Dog, Yep remember that lame duty oh too well, bout all I ever did was check the back up genereator every 4 hours to see if it would start up and play card games with the Carabinieri. Of course there were the donkeys that usaed to roam around, never did find out how or why the hell they were in there

| The only good thing about BLSA guard duty when I was there ('77-'9) was we got the next day off. Best night was when a small car pulled up around midnight with a girl and two guys --- she was doing a good job on both until she looked up and saw 5 U. S. Army guards on the other side of the fence watching !! The Carbinieri were the only ones more bored than we were.

Yep, Private D pulled ASP duty once while assigned to the 2nd Batt at Fort Lewis.
Only once. After that they wouldn't let me anywhere near the ASP again.
See. Private D and Private Galendez were pulling guard duty when a civilian vehicle approached the main gate. A white male got out wearing civilian clothes. As he approached the gate, I challenged him and commanded very loudly. Halt. I of course could not state the rest "Sergeant of the Guard Post Number 1" as the SOG was miles away.
Anyway the individual failed to stop. As he approached the gate, I again commanded Halt, or I will fire. The individual failed to halt. He then pulled a set of keys out of his pocket and started to open the gate. At which time I put a round through the grill of his car. He immediately hit the deck. Galendez approached and secured him.
We tried to call the OD. All the time this civilian threatening us.
Guess what. It turned out that HE was the OD. He had changed clothes and left post for some reason and decided to check out the ASP on his return.
I got a hand slap by the 1SG. He was busted for dereliction of duty.
