I just spoke with my Recruiter like last wed.
and I told him I wanted Airborne School Guaranteed in my MEPS contract. He then went on to tell me that National Guard cannot put it in MEPS contract (even for 19d or 11b). They said that the state would not pay for the training, and in order for you to go airborne in the guard, you would have to go to AIT and then there would be people recruiting for Airborne Training there. He also told me that any NG recruiter (in any state) that says they can guarantee Airborne in the contract is either full of **** or knows something he doesn't, i just wanted to get a confirm or deny from some of you guys that are NG recruiters.

Aaron, Eyes should be able to give you the definitive answer, but to my knowledge the only way you can get BAC in a NG contract is to enlist for a unit that is on status. If the state isn't willing to pay for it then it won't do you any good to volunteer at AIT. The state would still have to pay for it in order for you to get a slot then.

Thanks Barry,

I will wait for Eyes to confirm this also, if this is the case, then active duty here I come, Airborne more important to me than finishing my degree right out of the gates.

I can tell you this much...
Now adays the airborne training slots are filled months in advance and it is not something you "happen" to get after AIT...total BS...
If there is a cancelation in the slot, all bets are some higher rank officer or SF will get that slot...
If you want airborne in a NG contract..there are a few ways of doing this...one is to go into a rigger's unit, such as Bakersfield, CA has such a unit since the NG riggers do get airborne in contract..
Or you simply transfer to 19th SFG after whatever MOS school you get and SF will send you to Jump school...
Or you can take your chances and join a NG infantry unit with no jump in contract and then "hope" you later get sent to jump school, you would have to contact the NG unit ahead of time to verify they are infantry on jump status..

Chris

You helped a ton.

I spoke with another recruiter and supposedly the Cav scout unit out of pendleton (a det of 116 th) is supposed to be getting authorized for air assault (not sure what that is.. remember i am an FNG) and a bunch of other high speed type things, i think they are even getting authorized to send people to sniper school (once again from SSgt. Greg Bynum not the first recruiter.) Once these guys are authorized or what ever for that, i am not sure of the process to recieve the training.

Is there a way to find out which guard units are on jump status save for the NG SF groups?

See my plan was... Go guard, get all my MOS training outta the way, wanted to get my jumpwings while i was away for training, do it all in one shot. Then when i got back, i could use my education benne's from the guard to get my teaching degree, THEN go on active duty for a hitch to see if i wanted to stick the active duty out. If I did, cool, if i wanted to go back to reserve i would have a Civvie Job i could fall back on. but the way its looking now is, go active duty for a hitch wether it be 4 or 6 years, then re-up guard, and go to school that way (since guard has killer education bennes) then go from there.

Go active duty. You'll love it.
