I am non prior service and have a question regarding which MOSs are acceptable for LRS units, I am asking in regard to the ARNG-LRS units that are still around. I can't get a hold of that units recruiter so I thought I would turn my question to you

thank guys for clearing that up. after I posted that I went back to the 160th site for the first time in a long time and someone had made some changes(changes don't happen to often with calguard sites from what I have seen) and their recruiter request resumes for the few open slots.
thanks

To fill in some blanks I am a civilian paramedic, I have done my homework regarding toward finding what I need to be processed over to 91W. I have had some tactical training with my current employer(my company provides them for both our SO and PD SWAT) and I am looking at attending some of the tactical medic schools which seem to be popular with many of the SF guys. I was hoping to find a place for myself with a high speed group as a medic. I have spoke with the 184th Air Assualt (there guy seemed pretty happy with my experience) and tried contacting the 160th w/o luck. From the recent additions to the 160th site I may be out of luck until there is an opening down there. I will most likely go with the 184th and transfer down there to the 160th if a space as 91W ever opens (if they have them in the first place).
thanks again

thanks again eyes
for me to enhance my civilian skills I need to work as a medic in the guard- (when applying for the civillian tactical medic schools being a 91 carries some weight) and I gain great satisfaction from working on guys who really need the help and appreciate it. Most of the guys we pick up in the streets are real POS you can imagine. The couple of times I have had the opportunity to work on SWAT officers with minor injuries, they really appreciate it and look to you to solve their problems. For me that is the juice, my reason in looking at some of the higher speed units is that I am fairly phyically fit and enjoy the challenge. I can truely imagine there being a huge difference between LRS and AASLT
thank again eyes

| I actually have a question similar to KW. Right now I'm slated to leave for OSUT as an 11B next year and I'm apart of the 1/184th. Recently my recruiter asked me if I wanted to change my MOS to 31C so I could get into 160th LRS. I wanted to know what exactly a 31C does in the LRS unit. I don't know if I want to be sitting back at base while the 11 bravos do all the high speed stuff in the field. However, if I can reclass 11B relatively quickly I'd be willing to do my time as a radio operator. Any opinions would be appreciated on this because I will be giving up about $3000 of my signing bonus for this. I know I didn't join the guard for the money but for a poor college student, that money could go a long ways. Thanks for the help.

31Cs run the commo shop and maintain the equipment. They run the base station and any outpost station to communicate with the teams. They also train the RTOs and teams on any new equipment that arrives. They are Airborne qualified, and are well respected especially since LRS no matter how high speed is only as good as it's long range communication capabilities.
I did time in the radio shop while my leg healed and as far as I'm concerned there is no sh't end of the stick in a LRS unit. The LRS units are so small and self sufficient every job is important.

| Thanks sf11-p. That is pretty much what I figured. I think I may be changing my MOS and joining the LRS unit. As much as I want to be an 11B, if I can eventually reclassify as one in the LRS unit by doing my time in the commo shop, it will be worth it. Plus, my desire to go airborne is as great, if not greater, than being in the infantry. I guess I look it as 'good things come to those who wait'. Sure I'll have to wait a little longer to get the blue cord, but I'll be around some **** hot guys in the meantime. Thanks for the help.
