I was at Ft. Lewis from 82-84, and a kid I went to high school with was in a cohort unit in the next battalion in late 82 to early 83. I was in 3/39th (changed around cohort time to 4/23rd) and he was in 2/39th that became the 2/23rd). I believe eventually that whole BN became cohort. My old readiness NCO in the National Guard was in a cohort unit with the 7th ID at Ft. Ord. It would be an OK system for some, but too close together for too long for my tastes.

My Company was made up of almost entirely Spec-4s after the two year mark, and most had the same time in grade and service... Promotion was also hindered to E-5 because all our Squad leaders were assigned to us before we even left Benning.

Hey Blowers, how's it going? When we were at C-8-2, I remember that B Co was a COHORT unit headed for the 7th ID. I think they graduated about four weeks or so before we did.

| I was in a cohort unit that stayed together from reception (March 18, 1982) through basic, AIT and Jump School and arrived, as a unit, in Fort Bragg via parachute. once there we were all shipped off to various units within the 82nd. there was no way to keep us together once permanent party since we were all the same MOS (76Y - Supply Specialist). As I described in my introduction post, pictures of our arrival "ceremony" on the DZ and at Div HQ were included in the 1982 division yearbook (under the HQ section).
