If nothing else... the cage will keep sleeping troopies from rolling off in the middle of the night... kinda like the bars on a crib.

You notice it's taken a week or so to PREPARE the vehicles for combat after getting of a SHIP??? Who knows what would happen if they landed at BIAP, and had to go to work imeadiatly.
Hmmmm....let's see if I got this SBCT deployment time table down:
96 hours to prep vehicles and load ships
3 week boat ride
48-96 hours to offload ships
2 weeks to add on extra 'bird cage' armor
<sarcasm on> Oh yeah, that's real rapid deployment. Boy I'm really glad Shitsuki spent $15 billion on his precious 6 Stryker Bde's so we can get something totally useless to the combat zone about as quick as it takes to deploy a real Mechanized Infantry Bde.<sarcasm off>

The rapid deployment force takes longer to move than the legacy force.
Go with God, but make Him walk the point.
If you load a mudfoot down with a lot of gadgets he has to watch somebody a lot more simply equipped - say with a stone axe - will sneak up and bash his head in while he is trying to read a Vernier. - Robert Heinlein
