My assigned weapon at Bragg and in Korea was the M2 Carbine. I now have a vintage WWII M1 Carbine, made by Rockwell in 1943. I think it would be shameful to desecrate the ole gal and turn it into something it was not intended to be. I hear a lot of talk about the Carbines lack of stopping power, but it was a beautiful and noble weapon that filled a much needed niche from WWII through the Korean War, into the 60's. I'll keep my Carbine as is.

RJ, you don't have to change a thing on your carbine to fire .224 sabot cartridges.  That's the beauty of it.  That's why I posted this thread.

Interesting. I just bought an M1 Carbine (because the first rifle I ever fired was a Carbine) and was curious about loads after seeing that virtually all commercial loads are 110 gr, 1,990 fps.

Price isn't bad, though, haven't looked into Milsurp but UMC is $14.12 for 50 rounds at WallyWorld.

Mine is a real mixmaster, a National Postal Meter with the late mods for bayonet, adjustable rear sight, and flip safety. It's an import in great shape, cost me $595 including a magazine, sling, and oiler.

Delta, you are correct. I guess I got caught up in all the subsequent rechambering and replacing the barrel stuff that came after your post. There are a lot of the repro foreign made Carbines available, and I wouldn't hestiate to recongifure one of those for hunting purposes. But here in Illinois, rifles are only legal for varmit hunting, coyotes, democrats, stuff like that. The only exception may be black powder rifles for Deer, but I am not sure they are even legal in Illinois. I haven't done any hunting of any kind for several years. I lost my good hunting grounds when my Stepdad died and just haven't put out the effort and time to find others. Getting too damn old.
