This needs to be thought out more clearly.

When the "Army of One" ads first started using the "Earn Money for College" plug, recruting stations were swarming with high school kids looking for just that, college money, never giving any thought as to the fact that they may have to go somewhere where they might very well die.

I have seen on my TV more than one set of parents say,"All he/she wanted to do was go to college and be a (insert occupation here)".

Young people with the notion of entering the Military need to be made aware of the purpose of the Military and they need to have a degree of respect for that purpose. So why not start off right from the git-go by sitting them down in front of a Military Uniform with as many Decorations as can be found to show what can be expected. If you replace Active Military Recruiters in Uniform with civilians in silk suit'n'tie/w/patent leather shoes, or T-shirt'n'blue jeans/w/tenny runners, you might just as well finish off the ensamble with Govt' issue "Chartreuse Beret /w/ Bleeding Heart Flash" because that's about the extent of respect, honor and loyalty that we will be getting in our Military.

We already have to much civilian interference wuth our Military as it is, ie. News media, Anti- Groups and the Politicaly Correct Sabateurs who would rather see the Anti-American peoples of the World become armed and strong than to look bad in the eyes of the members of the UN.

You've heard "Seaperation of Church and State"?

Well, how 'bout "Seaperation of Military and Civilian"? Let the Military do it's job and let the civilian go get one. [bang] [bang] [bang] [bang]

"A citizen who takes up arms, is no longer a civilian".

I don't know if this is a bad idea or not.  80% of the recruiters you run across hate it and can't wait to get back to the line.  If A civilian w/ prior service can handle the job then why not get people back into there career fields and let a Civillian handle it.  The army is paying them more then they would a NCO but in comparison how much does it cost to send one soldier through Recruiters school?

At my High School, the Army Recruiter is an NCO (Airborne qualified too!) I went in and talked to him not too long ago to get an  information packet on army ROTC Programs. I Have never seen a civilian recruiter, the army NCO is there pretty consistently and occasionally the marine recruiter drops by. The Marines always makes a big splash when they come by (arrive in a hummer and set up pull-up bars to give out prizes for however many you get done, dressed in full dress uniform with the sword and everything) but like I said, they are not there too often. I dont know how I would feel about seeing a civilian do it, like Abncrazy pointed out, they may look professional but seeing a marine or army recruiter in full uniform is just a little bit better, and a lot of kids I now would be skeptical of recruiters who were civilians. Even if they had prior service, non-prior service civilians would be a joke to most ppl. Just my 2 cents

I've seen civilians recruiting for the Army; in fact, the Milwaukee Recruiting Battalion had a company that had one civilian recruiter that I know of, but I think he was a GS employee and not a contractor. He was a former NCO (E-7) who had extensive experience working at MEPS. This was in 1998, so that means that the experiment of substituting civilians for military recruiters started then around here. Ya gotta love a guy who actually asks to be a recuiter. Long hours, low pay, and plenty of BS from the head shed (do-nut rolling motivational meetings) etc.

the definitely are not low paid. civilian recruiter get a base pay, plus anywhere from 500 to 1000 per contract. my station commander had one when he was in california. the guy average 3 contracts a month. very big bucks when they are all worth a grand. and he got his army retirement pay. this guy maybe worked 3 days a week. but being a recruiter, all his appointments were made while he was out with his family. he would come into the office only to conduct and process applicants.
