In defense of Mattix's performance, he took a head shot early on. If that hadn't happened, the whole thing would have been much bloodier.

Go with God, but make Him walk the point.

Well that's true, but I don't think anyone was implying that Matix was a slacker. Just being able to think and move with a bullet in your head is a pretty good feat all by itself. I do have to wonder why he had #6 shot loaded in his shotgun though. Were they on the way to go duck hunting?

The really screwed up thing was the PC politics that drove the FBI to adopt .38 special revolvers as the standard sidearm in the 70's. That was WAY screwed up. At least in the 50's and 60's they used .357 magnum. I know it's a moot point, but if the FBI had been using .357 magnum that day, everything would have ended much sooner with two agents still alive IMO.

Now had it been J. Edgar Hoover's FBI of the 1930's, the FBI agents would had been armed with M1911 pistols, M1928 Thompson SMG's, and M1918 BAR's. Matix and Platt wouldn't have ever made it out of the car.

Hmmm...I think that the main mistake was starting arresting with out a good plan - who saw the sketch or maps of this place knows that it was a parking at the front of a house - if the criminals were wiser they would entry to the house take some hostages or just barricade them selves...In Poland we have such rule that to arrest dangerous suspects a full-time special unit is being called...they attack supported by marksmen and have all stuff needed (MP-5s, G-36Ks). If in Miami were any marksmen , there wouldn't be no killed/wounded agents....

One more reason why I subscribe to the empty the magazine and reload theory of use of lethal force. I hope that no one I might have to shoot is found with just one bullet hole in them...it means that I probably didn't get a second, third, or fourth shot off! I am perplexed at the number of inmates that I've had to babysit at the hospital that were shot just one time by an officer. Anyone worth shooting is worth shooting more than once...hell you do the same amount of paperwork so...

When in doubt, empty the magazine.

Roger that!!! Anyone worth shooting once is worth shooting three times at least. Besides a dead crook saves the court's time, saves the taxpayer's money, and cannot sue a police dept. or officer.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, those LAPD should have just backed off and shot Rodney King instead of trying to subdue the PCP and cocaine intoxicated freak.
