Thanks to all of you. We went to the range for the first time today and it was super fun for me but others were very nervous, specially some of the females [first time shooters].
Can't talk too much about CBP in the open channel but lets just say that my title is "CBP Officer."
longarm, you don't need a degree for a CBP officer position but the process to get in is about a year [no domestic violence incidents in your past and no felonies]. For Special Agent you do need a degree and that is something I will be trying to get into in the near future. I actually want to become an MEO [Marine Enforcement Officer]. To be an MEO with CBP you have to go to SA school first and then you do all the marine stuff. Seems like SA for MEO is overkill but that is how CBP does it. If I post more info here I would be crossing the OPSEC line.
Again, thanks for the well wishes. An as CBP says "ONE TEAM, ONE FIGHT!"

RR,
Congrats! I've been in a couple of the alphabet agencies, and spent about a year at Glynco off and on. Pam's #1 is a great bar, just around the corner.

Sorry, CBP is not for me, don't like the idea of working the San Diego Station for the next ten years. One of my buds is there right now and hates life!!
RR, drop a line dude, you will run out of places and things to do in Brunswick in a couple of days!
And stay out of Mamasan's/Sally's Cop Shop, the place is a rip off!

RR, I'd love to get that job. My background is clear, as I'm a current Deputy Sheriff. I want Alaska. I don't care where in the state, just somewhere in Alaska. It's got to be hard I imagine for them to fill every billit in Alaska. I looked on Customs website and found nothing. Can you please point me in the right direction?

Ertman, about 30% of the jobs in CBP are high-speed the other 70% can be boring. Either way you are performing an important job for our nation at seaports, airports and land borders IMO. People in this agency who lose sight of that should find another job ASAP IMO.
longarm, visit the following Websites:
www.cbp.gov
www.dhs.gov
www.usajobs.opm.gov
On the first two click on anything that has to do with careers or jobs. On the third you can conduct different searches for LEO jobs under CBP or DHS. That is the way I found out about jobs with CBP about a year ago. Since you are already an LEO your background investigation should not take that long.
You can also write to CPB OPM in DC and ask to be added to the list for the next written exam in your area. Be advised that annoucements with CBP are either port especific or nationwide. If you apply under a nationwide annoucement they can send your ass anywhere they need you so if you want to stay in your current AO apply for annoucements for duty in your area only (if you want to stay in your current AO it might take longer for you to get in since port especific announcements don't show up often). Port especific annoucements usually have longer probation periods.
BTW, the FAM (Federal Air Marshal) program is getting ready to move again soon. After 9/11 it was under the FAA, then it moved for a short time under TSA. TSA moved from under the FAA and is now under DHS. The FAMs soon may be under BCBP (Bureau of Customs and Border Protection) or under BICE (Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement). Confusing?[ ]

Actually the original sky marshals started within Customs and then went to the FAA. Just a big ol circle eh?
