My little sweet heart, Her Royal Majesty the Princess Olivia Grace (thats what she prefers to be called) is also profoundly deaf.
Dawn and I found this out shortly after her birth last year. She is about 50% deaf in her left ear and 75% in her right. She wears hearing aids and is learning sign language.
It is not the end of the world. No matter what the cost, go to the BEST in your state. We go to Childrens Hospital in Pittsburg and they are great.
She wears top of the line digital hearing aids, ($4000.00 a pair) and has a speech and hearing therapist over at least twice a month. Getting a one year old to wear hearing aids is like trying to catch a greased pig, difficult, but not impossible.
She knows a few signs, but my three year old has picked it up like a second language. You and your wife should take a sign language class and get some books and videos about ASL.
E-mail me and I can hook you up with some info.
Hate to see this happen to a fellow 2 Panther, or anyone else for that matter, but like I said, it isn't the end of the world, and mine and Dawns thoughts and prayers are with you and your little one.

The former Miss America from Alabama, Heather Whitestone is deaf and she is a deaf advocate. She had implants and can hear her baby now.

Wanted to give everyone an update.
We went to the ear Dr yesterday. The 2nd test was in fact better than the 1st. She is not completely deaf but there is definately a hearing loss. The way the Dr put it is like this: On the spectrum between total deafness and normal hearing she is about half way in between.
Since she is only 2 months old there is not anything they can do at this point. When she is 6 months old they will do another test. If the results are the same the Dr believes that this can be corrected with hearing aids.
Thanks again for your prayers!!! Ill keep everyone posted.
