Big Red One unit to deploy

Associated Press

FORT RILEY, Kan. — About 3,000 Fort Riley soldiers are preparing for deployment in support of the “global war against terrorism,” post officials said Wednesday.
The soldiers from the 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division are expected to leave beginning later this month and be gone for up to a year. The troops will be attached to the 82nd Airborne Division.

About 3,500 soldiers from Fort Riley have been deployed since February. They are with the 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division and 937th Engineer Group.

Out of every 100 men, ten shouldn't even be there, Eighty are just targets, Nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the one, one is a warrior, and he will bring the others back." - Hericletus, circa 500 BC
