So far I have gathered that you only need a green card to join the U.S. airborne. I tried looking for information on the embassy site but you have to pay for it so I will try here if you dont mind. Is it possible to apply for a green card before you leave for the states? Im a 17 year old Canadian, Im planning on leaving for the states as soon as possible, or waiting until I am 18, about a year. I am done high school and speak perfect english. I just want to know how fast I can get a green card and what my chances of getting one are? I dont want to waste time down there working at some pizza place when I could be starting my career in the military. I need some advice on the fastest way to get a green card, as soon as I get down there and meet the requirements (green card) I am going to enlist. Any advice or comments are appreicated!

You should be applying for your green card before you enter the US. If you enter without one from Canada I believe (and don't quote me on this) you will be entering as a tourist. That allows you to stay up to 90 days. But it does not allow you to work in this country.
You need to apply for either a residency green card or a work permit green card. Both cost dollars and take a little bit of time.
Of course you could also find some sweet american honey and get married. The green card would still cost the money too.
Take a few days, come across the border and go talk to a recruiter to find out exactly what they are going to require of you is my best advice.

Hey, thanks for responding to my post. Im going to Seattle this winter to see a NFL game with my old man so mabye I will talk to a recruiter then. So it would be best to apply for a green card around half a year before I leave for the states? What kind of green card do I need for the airborne, a working one right? Any idea how long it takes to get or how much it is? Ill have my HS diploma by then and will be almost 18. Sorry one more question, can I move to the u.s. and get a green card, join the airborne at age 17, or must I wait until I am 18. Thanks a ton, really appreicate it!

this is a basic version of what has to happen.
come to the states. settle here and register with INS. you need a sponsor.
the next step is getting a work permit (not authorized to enlist you with this) this gives you a SSN for work purposes that will be you official SSN down the line.
get you final interview. once this happens you passport will be stamped "PROCESSED FOR I-551 AND PERMANENT RESIDENCE". once you got that a recruiter can put you in. you do NOT have to have the green card in your hands yet. the stamp in your passport proves that you have finished processing for it.
whole process can take a while, so you need to get on it and be vigilant. good luck
