The Army has a HUGE fleet of ships.

Go with God, but make Him walk the point.

If you load a mudfoot down with a lot of gadgets he has to watch somebody a lot more simply equipped - say with a stone axe - will sneak up and bash his head in while he is trying to read a Vernier. - Robert Heinlein

The Army's navy is under the Transportation Branch. Many of these positions would be Transportation Branch MOS's such as 88K and 88L. Here are some links for the Transportation Branch:

Army operations aren't strictly limited to land. Small boats are often used for amphibious troop landings, harbor patrols and transportation of short distances. It's up to members of the watercraft operation team to navigate and pilot these watercraft, which include tugboats, PT boats, gunboats and barges.

Watercraft Operators are primarily responsible for performing mariner duties and supervising other Soldiers on Army watercraft. Some of your duties as a Watercraft Operator may include:

- Docking and undocking vessels
- Dropping and weighing anchors
- Identifying and interpreting single-letter international code signal flags
- Sending and receiving messages with radios, beacons and signal flags
- Operating and maintaining lifeboats and vessel fire equipment
- Securing all types of cargo using capstans, winches, hoists and davits
- Directing the course and speed of boats
- Consulting maps, charts, weather reports and navigation equipment
- Operating amphibious craft during troop landings
- Maintaining boats and deck equipment
- Operating ship-to-shore radios

- Keeping the vessel logbook
- Navigating a boat or other watercraft
- Beaching and retracting landing craft
- Towing vessels and barges in harbors and inter-coastal waterways

Training
Job training for a Watercraft Operator consists of nine weeks of Basic Training, where you’ll learn basic Soldiering skills, and six to 22 weeks of Advanced Individual Training, including practice in boat operations. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field. You’ll learn:

- Boat handling procedures
- Log and message-handling procedures
