Two Marines Accused of Stealing Weapons

Fox News

Jacksonville, N.C.

Two Camp Lejeune Marines were arrested and accused of stealing $25,000 worth of government weapons, ammunition and equipment, authorities said.

Lance Cpl. John David Stocks and Lance Cpl. Charles Anthony Rohrl, both 19, left the base about a week ago without permission, said Naval Criminal Investigative Services agent Michael Monroe. They were found in a home Saturday in York, S.C., after police received a tip.

Stocks, a York native, is assigned to the armory of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, where he helped issue, maintain and safeguard the unit's weapons, said Staff Sgt. Pauline Franklin, a Camp Lejeune spokeswoman.

Rohrl is a basic infantryman with the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, which is assigned to 2nd Marine Division, Franklin said.

Federal charges against the men were pending, authorities said.

They are accused of taking one M-16 A2 rifle (search), three M-9 pistols, two shotguns, ammunition for the three firearms, two K-Bar knives and three pairs of night vision goggles, Franklin said.

idiots.

That doesn't begin to decscribe it! Not that they could have gotten away with it, but damn, they didn't even TRY to get away with it. They had to know that the Feds would come looking for the stolen weapons, they also had to know that the first place they would look would be at home, if only to question family members. The question that keeps running through my mind is "WTF were they thinking?". Maybe they thought the Marines wouldn't miss the weapons or NVG's? Maybe the Marines wouldn't notice also that with the missing sensitive items, the two marines were also missing? The level of stupidity just utterly amazes me.

I knew a couple of soldiers in Korea that tried to steal a case of fragmentation Grenades, at least they were slick enough to hide it in a vehicle that wasn't theirs (unfortunatly it was mine, imagine my surprise when I unlocked the toolbox to get some chains out of the wrecker and found a box of grenades instead, with the motorpool sgt standing right behind me.) and try to cover it up somewhat. These guys didn't even do that. As part of their sentencing, they should be castrated so that they can no longer be a part of the gene pool. If we were to adopt this practice, maybe we could weed out the stupid people.

what pisses me off about missing sensitive items is that we always all have to pay for their stupidity..how many times have you guys had to do a "hands across the training area" or a unit lockdown because of fools like this??? will they ever learn that if you really want a weapon or nvgs,,,just save some cash and buy it off the internet! stop making us look bad by getting your stupidity posted in the national papers....idiots

We had some idiot in the 1/508 try to steal a 45. We were in Germany, had just completed Reforger-82 and had a week or so to kill until we were due to jump into Turkey (for Display Determination). We were staying at some barracks complex near Stutgart and they were letting us go out at night and everyone was going out drinking and whatnot and having a good time. Till the 45 came up missing. Then we were locked down. Everyone was pissed! Turns out some idiot from another company had mailed it home in several different pieces of mail! He finally confessed, but not before everyone missed out on a couple nights on the town...
