Why don't the Marines wear patches on their Uniforms?

the marines used to wear patches, but for some reason went away from it. i know soldiers who wear marine combat patches. i know that it is not technically right according to regs, but the guys earned it. who am i to correct them?

Our uniforms are clean because the only thing that really matters in Marine. All the rest is secondary. You can't tell unit or MOS by the uniform.

It also denies the enemy intel. They can't tell which units they are facing. We aren't supposed to write units above company on our papers (freqs, range cards, fireplan sketches...).
