Why not just adopt this? That way you can shoot standard 105mm projectiles? You could also sling it for choppers and tow it w/ Hummers...

Is this new MC Weapon a mortar? How is it loaded? does the crew have to hump the 120mm shell to the muzzle and drop in in?

All the other BIG mortars I have seen were breech loaders. Carrying ammo isn't a killer. The thing is intended to be towed or carried internally, so ammo would be ditto.

Go with God, but make Him walk the point.

The normal French version is handloaded, but the shells only weigh about 45lbs, so it's doable. The Dragon fire's big advance is auto loading and auto aiming, that's where all the weight comes from. The basic Frog mortar is about 1200lbs on it's trailer.

The advantage of the 120mm mortar over the 105mm cannon is angles of impact(city fighting) and effect on target. The thin walled 120mm moratr shells are closer to 155mm in effectiveness than 105mm. I seem to recall the ECR is about 65m for the 120mm HE shell. S/F...Ken M
