She did violate a law (which is stupid as it concerns military personnel) and she violated a reg, (which she should be punished for). But and here is the big point,,,SHE TURNED HERSELF IN AND TOOK RESPONSIBILITY! You do not throw out the baby with the bathwater in a case like this. Obviuously she has some good character because she recognized she screwed up, turned herself in and took the punishment.

So now you want to either have her expelled or turn her into an "informer"? When the former Army Chief of Staff was a liar, the SMA a drunk and who knows what the other services top brass are guilty of you want to can a cadet with a conscience and some integrity? I hope not!

Yeah! What he said!

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Redleg and JMK make very good points. The cadets know exactly what they are commiting themselves to and given the recent problems experienced by the AFA, one should expect that the standards will be upheld (as they should). While I agree with Jmpmstr that ANY soldier should be allowed to drink, the fact remains that the law says differently. How can any leader, be they officers or NCOs command the respect of their charges if they do not set the ultimate example. I think CB makes an excellent point. It is the duty of the other cadet to turn him/herself in as well. How can the leaders at the academy NOT do something about this situation? The other cadet must be dealt with. They can't simply say, "oh well, she doesn't want to tell us, and the other cadet won't turn him/herself in, so I guess we'll just forget it." Lets also keep in mind that the AFA hasn't said anything about separating her - it is all speculation. I feel that the AFA would much rather have them both fess up and take punishment (less separation), but they are being forced into a corner here and may be forced to act differently.
