I'm part of the RED HORSE Airborne team, and am trying to lighten our equipment load. The team currently deploys the EALS system, which is trailer mounted and cannot be dropped. It also takes up critical weight and space.

I've seen the CCT guys use portable "bean bag" lights for emergency runway marking, and I think this would be the route for us to go as well. Would anyone out there happen to have an NSN on these, either in sets or individually?

I found a number online, but when I went into FEDLOG it gave a price of $1, even though it was suppoedly for a kit of 12 lights, spares and a storage box. Thank you in advance!

David -

I suggest instead of doing this online, you should drive over the 23 STS and ask them in person.

That way you can actually see and touch the items you are asking about, as opposed to the "crap shoot" of ordering them and seeing what you get when they arrive.

Go direct with their Supply personnel to avoid any attitude or personality issues. If you have problems at the 23, let me know and I will put you in touch with a contact at 720 STG.

Now - Having said all that, there is a procedure for checking in to paratrooper.net, and you haven't followed it completely.

The first step is to fill out your profile, which you've already done. Excellent!

Next, you need to go to the Reception/In-processing area and complete a post introducing yourself - Which you have yet to accomplish.

Failure to do those two things will result in a digital pummelling from the BTDTs (Been There Done That's) on the site for failure to pay attention to detail, Airborne.

Now, knock out 50 Airborne push-ups, then head on over there and get squared away.

DH9,

Glad to have you here. You need to listen to JR and hit the reception station.

I take it you are a big fan of 2001 or of Kubrick.

As far as going in heavy. He if you have to hump it then figure out what you need and what you don't. If your not humping it, take as much as you can. We all know that you AF type like to live comfortable.

Hell, Dave -

Who doesn't like to live comfortable, when you can? I saw more comfort items in SFOB 30 during DESERT STORM than anywhere else before or since! Biggo TVs, refrigerators, etc... Then again, the shooters were living there while prepping to live in hide sites in the desert, so everyone wanted to ensure it was nice in the base camp.

Hey - I'll bet there's very few of us on here that need any more practice in being miserable in the field! []

Welcome to the Airborne! How are you going to jump that Trimble gear? LOL

I think you're looking for #6230-00-115-9996 on the beanbag lights, good luck!

Thanks for the advice all! I knocked out my 50, did some squat jumpers for good measure, then inprocessed. I should be squared away now!

I went over to the 23rd a couple of weeks ago, but it was locked up like Ft. Knox. I spoke to a Major on the phone who said they'd be happy to help, who then refered me to a supply guy who claimed to have no idea what I was talking about. So I began the search online.

The system the AF wants us to use is hauled on about 5 trailers and can't be jumped, sling loaded or hauled on a shit-hook. We want something we can jump with or fit on a single pallet if need be. I've seen the CCT guys use the bean bags all over, so it seems logical to go the same route.

Jumping with the Trimble? Have we met somewhere? Safe Flag? Moody? Iraq? We're phasing out the old Lycras (sp?) we had and are going to Trimbles, but I hope they don't seriously expect us to jump that crap! They did ask me to plan for it during OIF, but it never happened. To be honest my $150 Garmin suits me just as fine and fits in an ammo pouch.

Thank you for the NSN given. I'll pull that one up and see what is says. Either that or try another here at Hurlburt. Thanks for the assist!
