These USAF paratroopers are listed on the Air Force Association website as members of the 12 Outstanding Airmen and/or USAF Enlisted Advisory Council.

All are combat veterans, with outstanding service in either Afghanistan, Iraq or both.

Staff Sergeant Jason R. Blodzinski
Air Force Special Operations Command

SSgt Jason R. Blodzinski is a Combat Control Journeyman with the 23rd Special Tactics Squadron at Hurlburt Field, Florida.

His contributions in Afghanistan were unprecedented from a planning, support and operational standpoint. He volunteered for a 6-month reconnaissance mission to probe Taliban and Al Qaeda front lines and led an all-night tactical movement up an 11,000-foot peak to decisively exploit airpower. Despite small arms and air defense cannon fire, he directed numerous lethal air strikes on key enemy defensive positions seizing a key town.

He established a remote airstrip, created air traffic control procedures, and controlled 65 combat sorties. His airmanship skills safely employed key personnel and equipment to the battlefield and opened a strategic airfield. He controlled the largest airdrop in Afghanistan of more than 110 tons of lifesaving food and clothing. He also flew crucial AC-130H interdiction missions during Operation Anaconda.

Sergeant Blodsinski, 27, was born in Buffalo, New York and entered the Air Force in 1997. After completing 19 months’ technical training in various locations, he was awarded his Combat Control specialty code and assigned to Hurlburt Field. He is one class away from completing an associate degree in Airway Sciences from the Community College of the Air Force.

At home, he collected funds for military families with financial hardships, organized collection of canned goods for food drives, assisted the local waterfront rescue mission and volunteered assistance for local military retirees. His military awards include the Bronze Star with Valor and Air Medal.
