I've seen much written about what the Army and Navy plans on doing to make their respective forces more capable of going lighter and faster, anywhere in the world. But I haven't seen too much written on the AF's plans.I know they adopted the JSF along with the Navy, but haven't seen much anything else.Any of you AF guys shed some light?I'm an aviation freak, mostly WWII stuff, but anything flying interests me.[82nd][E6][uswingsr][infantry][scout]

So far the AF is trying to "lean" itself out. most of the airframes we've got are old. We by 2010 should have the F-15 replaced w/ the F-22. The F-15E strike eagles will be around to haul bombs. The F-16 Should start being replaced by the F-35.
Cargo planes = C-17 and C-130s with galaxy's to haul the big stuff. No more C-141's
Bombers = B-52 will still fly. 1/3 of the B-1's are in storage and the B-2 will continually be upgraded
Other AF fields are updating as well. My field (AF Acquistions) is again trying to lean out...reorganizations galore. The AF is also attempting to move more jobs to be done by contractors....freeing up men and women to do AF things
UAV's are a BIG thing...this is the wave of the future. hopefully by 2020 there will be few manned flyers. No man = more aerodynamic planes and heavier payload (no weight of aircrews, aircrew armor, aircrew life support, aircrew interfaces, cockpits, ejection seats)....Pilots will say that this is bad, but I think it is good. with the rest of the world trying to develop 5th generation fighters (eurofighter and S-37)...we have the 5th (F-22) and only America has the gumption to make the 6th (UCAV)
hope that this helps

I am not as in favor of UCAVs. Especially when our most likely adversary has dedicated themselves to integrated information warfare.
Losing comm with your attack aircraft and see them do a U-turn would ruin our day.

The USAF has developed Contingency Response units, which are composed of repidly-deployable troopers. Some of them are Airborne-trained, and a few participated with the 173rd Abn Bde on their jump into Northern Iraq. This is a BIG step forward for the USAF, and reflects the great deal of thought that has recently been devoted to this area.
Special Tactics Forces are looking at a significant reconstruction, as well. Details are not available at this time, but there are definitely a number of options being evaluated.

K-Dog,
You'd hate to hear the program I'm working on now...were starting a program to turn F-16's (AKA lawn darts) into aerial target drones.

What an efficient use of taxpayer dollars.
Why not just make them remote controlled and attack enemy positions with them. The first UCAVs.

Ilove that bird. I have so many falcon bites... but one day she is going to have to go on static display. I still think she is the best all-round jet the Air force has had.
All the awards I have will not compare to the honor if being called your brother.
