I just recently found my DD-214. My MOS at discharge in 1961 was 133.67. When at Bragg I think it was 133.17. I know that 7 is Airborne Qualified, and I am presuming 6 was NCO and the 1 was when I was an SP/4 with the 1/17 Cav. I have no idea what the 133 represents, or what it is in the New Army's scheme of things. But the real kick in the head was my title on my DD-214 - Are you Ready? ARMOR INTELLIGENCE SPECIALIST. Ain't that sumpin? I was intelligent and didn't even know it, hell I couldn't even spell it until I looked at my DD-214.

RJ,
I think MOS 133 is equivalent to today's Armored Cavalry Scout MOS 19D. You are correct about the '6' meaning SGT, the number refers to a skill level, and the 7 of course means Airborne qualified.

I have been wandering all these years why the CIA has been bugging me to join their Organization. It has to be my "Armor Intelligence Specialist" title. I would fit right in with those so called "Intelligent" agents. Most of them can't think past now. I hope the men in black are not monitoring p.net, I might be in serious trouble - Nah, most of them can't read above the 3rd grade level.

Thanks Delta_6, appreciated the information.

Old MOS because Vietnam Era list 5 as the highest enlisted rank code and 7 as a prefix for commissioned officer parachutist P still being the enlisted identifier. The closest to 133 is for Armored Construction or Combat Engineer Commander.

sf,
The Army changed all of the MOS codes in 1964, so the Vietnam era MOS's are different than the Pentomic Era MOS's.

In the 60's a basic officer mos had 4 digits as in 1542 for Infantry Unit Commander or 1193 for Field Artillery Unit Commander. If he was parachute qualified his mos would read 71542 or 71193 and if he was SF qualified it would read 31542 or 31193 (This is were you get the expression "3 qualified") Now the mos's are more in line with the enlisted mos. An Infantry Officer would be an 11A5G if he was SF qualified but had not yet branched to SF Branch. If he was SF Branch it would be 18A5G
