I need to clarify a comment I made about the Mohawks being used for enroute fire supression etc etc. The Mohawks were disarmed before the Cav wen to RVN, however they were trained to provide these services before being disarmed.

I need to modify some things I have said in the past about getting the A-10 or other older A/C (including the A1E and the A-26). I believe any of these systems being brought into the Army inventory would be immense headaches for logistics, parts and Maintenance. The A-10 would be a headache from the people angle. While I believe the SecDef has the authority to transfer people from one service to another and the troops can whine all they want, I believe the AF types would file a class action lawsuit and hold up things.

I do believe if I was Sec Army and Rummy said the AF is going to give the CAS role and the A-10s and some of their older C-130's for transport if you want it. I would say "give those birds" and as soon as I walked out of Rummys office I would be telling my folks to start developement of replacements and see if we can come up with better systems. If we could we would use them, if not the Army would make the older systems work. I think getting the CAS and transport missions would be worth taking older systems. But I really believe the parts, logistics and maintenance would be a nightmare.

D6 the armed helicopter unit you were talking about that the AF didn't like was the UTT(Utility Tactical Transport) company. It was flying "A" model Hueys with M-60's and 2.75"rockets. All of these weapons were jury rigged to provide fire supression escort for the H-21's on CA's. They were really light weight and still the AF didn't want the Army to have them. The UTT was later redesignated the 334th
Attack co if I remember correctly.

Farmer40 you are right on the money about the A1E's doing a great job in RVN IMO. While the fast movers made more noise the Spads did more damage.

Dutch

A MEU is not fast, but its already close. A MEU can't get from North Carolina fast, but it can get from the MED to Liberia fast WITH 15 days of food and ammo and a few M1s.

I really like these things. He is trying to get a few DOD contracts. I hope he get them. These things would be GREAT for many roles.

I just checked their stock info and lets say if they do well, this is a good time to buy.

I hope they do well, I lonve the idea and the Military could do amazing things with the toys they make. (If they perform as advertised)
