The book answer is 102, but the real answer is 108. Read here to find out how:

Alright, alright...as the resident C-17 expert on this site I shall address this issue. Currently the aircraft has the capability to drop 102 jumpers as is. Personally, I have dropped 104, not including the 2 safties which brought the pax count up to 106. I sat on the floor, the other load at the loadmaster station and I sent the 2 safties upstairs to ride in the ACM seats. Illegal?? Yes, but the mission got accomplished.
The C-17 has the capability to add a SECOND set of centerline seats bring the total number of potential jumpers up to 150. Of course you would be knee to knee just like in the 141 and 130, but hey 150 jumpers ain't all that bad. Why won't the AF request a second set of centerline seats?? Simple. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ They don't want to pay for it. They would also have to store the second set of seats somewhere other then the jet. That would be more $$$$$$$$.
The urinal issue is actually a non-issue. You could request a couple of portable urinials like we used to use on the 141, or you could put a comfort pallet in PP#1 and still have the room for the centerline seats. Sounds like the AF does'nt want to pony up the $$$ for this issue.
I say if the Army buys the extra seats then the AF would probaly do it.
Clear as mud???

It's also much more economical for the enemy. Every missile means 50% more casualties among the jumpers.[ ]

Roger. I think the Army should buy the extra seats. There is something just wrong with an aircraft of that size not being able to jump at least one company of troopers. At a minimum, that plane should be able to jump 125, or a company IMO. We jumped 150 on the old smaller C-141, so I don't see why they reduced the number to 100 on the larger C-17.

Well there is the jump load then there is the combat concentrated load, which for a C-130 used to be 90 pax. MM states with his post of 150 jumpers (concentrated combat load) for the C-17 which makes sense. By all means lets get the Army to buy more seats for C-17s instead of Strykers![ ]

If the same rules apply to the C-17 as apply to the deuce and a half or 5 ton, the answer to D6's question would be...
