The Last Bell
The last bell has sounded.
Last respects have been paid.
In the ground we have been laid,
Now our blood will nourish the liberty tree.
Please, do not cry for me,
Cry for those who cannot see
The beauty of liberty.
We died to bring this gift, so that they might see
The only way is liberty.
Our voices now silent,
Our message carries on
Through the lives we once lived,
And the deaths we died.
Remember us so all can see
The unchanging price of Liberty.
Now we've returned home to stay,
To forever rest in the land of Liberty.
-John Ash
Memorial Day during wartime takes on special significance. Since May Day 2002 181 US service members died in support of the war on terror. The US lost 30 in Afghanistan and PI, and 151 in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. Their service has contributed to a safer world and the liberation of two countries.

| While I appreciate the people taking time to honor the war dead, I just wish they would remember every day that there are young Americans making sure they can go about their lives. Most people don't realize that there are troops alert and defending them 24/7. Whether its the ready Bde at Bragg, fighters and bombers at the ready, subs and ships on the seas, and the troops in the combat zone(Iraq & AStan)they make our lives and the lives of our allies safe by putting their lives on the line. The price of freedom is eternal vigelance.
