Traditional Archery is taking off again,, I know of one guy with his own show, Tred Barta, who only hunts with recurve or longbow. I saw him take a grizzly at 30 yards with a longbow and wooden arrows.(not record class, but at that close range, all grizzleys are huge) I just love zinging arrows.

HH6 and I drew a blank on our deer and elk tags this season, but have a chance at some left over tags which go on sale Aug 11, and then the application for late season elk tags is Oct 15, so we still have a shot at putting meat in the freezer.

Plus we are going for our fall turkey, she wants wild turkey for Thanksgiving, and we are also getting for our over the counter cougar and bear tags. In NM bear is very challenging as the use of baits and dogs is not allowed, puls we dont have dogs for the  cougar hunt, so we will have to do a lot of scouting. These hunts will be with our muzzleloaders.

Shameless marketing, but that's America. Let the consumer decide with his wallet

Thats pretty much what I was thinking as well. Just trying to tap into the Hooah factor.

It is good equipment, but there is comparable stuff out there for a few hundred less. If I do wind up getting this gear, I will be peeling off all the Airborne stickers it has on it. Probably will go with somthing else that costs less.

If it is shameless marketing, they are not the only ones.  I am currently in the market for a compound bow and would love to have this edition, but if I can find a comparable one for a few hundred less, I'll probably go for that.

Any advice for this novice?

Wife and I spent a bit over 900$ on archery equipment prior to my hurricane deployments. I passed on the 82nd Bow, as it was 780$, I got a close-out Reflex Ridgeline on sale fro only 450$, a 150$ savings that left me cash for the rest, sights and other acessories. Wife got a starters package from Parker Bows.

My advice is to find a good sporting goods shop/archery shop and start picking the brains of the staff. A package deal is a good place for beginners until you can get enough experience as to which rest, sights, etc you prefer. Most good shops will set up the bows you are interested in so you can test shoot them prior to purchase. Domt blow a lot of cash on gear at first,,, you may decide it isnt for you. Start with good and moderately priced gear and upgrade in a couple of years if you are truely hooked. Also,,,quality arrows are a must, just like quality ammo for a rifle. They are pricey, but you DO get what you pay for. Then,,,practice, practice, practice!!!!!!

Welcome to the archers brotherhood.
