Ok, Marine thanks for the sitrep.

Monday it was 92 in the shade and about 104 in a C-130 flying the racetrack around, and around, and around Fryar Drop Zone!

When you are the last stick on a C-130 doing laps around Fryar Drop Zone it ain't no merry go-round your on. You just want to JUMP!

 Get off DA-PLANE!

We used to reverse sticks from one day to the next so the same students didn't get stuck on the same stick on the same plane every day.

This week every day looks like 92 degrees in the shade, but you won't notice by Thursday's graduation jump you'll feel like you could jump without a parachute, just hurry up and get the dooe open!

Graduation will hit you like a rock, and then you will say I AM AIRBORNE now so don't nobody mess with me!

Oh by the way take those BLOOD WINGS off and scratch a "B" on the back of them, because they will get lost as the years go by, and all of those OTHER wings you buy for souveniors.

My first jump was from a C-141, there hasn't been another jump quite like it, they always say the first one is the easiest because you don't know what to expect, it's the second jump that's hard. Watching the Navy Corpsman across from me puke his ham and egg breakfast down his shirt was the hardest part, all I could think about was how happy I was not to smell it or I would have thrown-up too.

Back in 1986, a buddy of mine from college named Rob Smith was 2 classes ahead of me (Class 34-86 !!). Rob's sister (and my former girlfriend !) was named America's Junior Miss while he was in ground week.  When invited to the White House for the cermony with President Reagan, needless to say, Cadet Smith was smoked BADLY for getting leave (and no one else got leave).

When Rob got to the White House and RR asked about his high and tight, Rob told POTUS what happened.  POTUS sat at the desk in the Oval Office, wrote a short note and gave it to Rob for his return.

On the following Monday, we (all the companies) were called to a School formation with Charlie Mike -- LTC Leonard B. Scott (Charlie Mike and the Last Run were his first 2 books).  LTC Scott read the note to all:

To all the Blackhats who gave Cadet Smith push ups.  He was visiting me at the White House.

YOU OWE HIM 100 PUSHUPS.

Signed,

Ronald Reagan, Commander in Chief

Probably never has happened again.  The entire cadre in the front leaning rest.

For a cadet.

You can find it, Marine, in the School Museum, I believe.

You can run and you can hide, but you'll only die tired !

Gonna keep this sitrep short and sweet.

Monday:  Two good exits, one good landing.  Was all set for solid left when wind about 10 feet off the dirt kicked me right.  Felt ankle give and roll.  Stayed on back long enough to access the pain then gathered my chute and moved out hobbling.  Pain got worse through the afternoon.  SOB in my chalk was late for manifest on Sunday so we had first shake out detail.  By 2300, I was doing my part in the detail but knowing there was no way I was jumping Tuesday.  At midnight I was at Publix buying ice and a brace.  Went back and iced it and took some ranger candy and went to bed.  This morning?  No swealing and very little pain.  Taped it up, put on the brace and made the run.

Tuesday: Two good exits, two so-so landings (which did not add pain or increase injury). So....  One more tomorrow and that proverbial fat lady will be singing.

It comes down to this:  I'm 43 and blessed just to be here with all these damn kids.  I made my team a promise two weeks ago that the only way I was leaving was to be carried out.  I got there this morning and the genuine concern showed to me made me know there was no way I was quitting without trying.

Night combat gear jump tomorrow.  I'll file an update sometime Thursday.

Now...where's that ice?

Semper Fi.

Welcome to the world of feet-ass-head landings.  Get used to it.

BTW, don't you just love it when the Blackhats still call you a leg after you've made a few jumps?

43?  Okay, you've earned at least 10 "cool kid" points in my book.

Excellent SITREP, as usual.  Keep them coming!  And good luck on your...ahem..."night"..."combat equipment" jump.  You'll understand later.
