It has been a while since I last posted on this site. I am both deploying and graduating from college soon, and have been considering attempting to transfer to the active component; back when I enlisted in 2002, there was the 11X option that sent you to Infantry, Airborne, RIP, and Ranger Schools. Is that still around, and if so, how hard would it be for an E-5 (soon to be E-6) to transition from Reserve CA to Active Component to do it?

Ranger School was not part of the option, but the Ranger Regiment is an option.  However, since you are fall into the prior service category I am not sure if that would be available to you.  You can go infantry and volunteer for the rest.  However, as an E-5 if you volunteer and are accepted for the 75th you would have to go to pre-Ranger and Ranger School first.

im not sure exactly how it works but if you went active you would loose rank. i think they try to take 2 away so you would be a pfc again, i know you would not keep your 5. i dont see why you couldnt get the rip option, allthough you will be messed with quite abit not being a brand new private at battalion.

What is the point of taking rank from Reservists who go active? Why do it, all it does is piss off the person going active.

It depends on if you're currently in an active status in the Reserve or if you're out of the system completely and for how long as to what rank you will get if you try to go active component. It's been too long for me to know for sure, but a recruiter will know I'm sure.

I am an active, drilling reservist, and have been contemplating transferring for a while.

The whole loss of rank thing will depend on the amount of total active time you have as to whether you lose one grade or more.
