Almost Airborne - I leave in a few weeks. Been Mech Infantry for the last 8 years (break in service) and now I'm in the 509th. I'm sick of being a NAP and missing the cool jumps (like Honduras).

Welcome to the site and enjoy the light side of the Army.  If you need anything from the Association let me know and good luck at BAC.  Never quit.

If he's IN the 509th right now then its not misleading at all unless you mean to say that you assume he's already airborne koalified

What's been happening for at least the last two or three years is that the Army is sending some Soldiers to the 1-509th who haven't been to BAC.  The Battalion then sends them to Benning to get their wings as soon as they can get a slot open.  Most of the Battalion is qualified and on status, it's just a question of getting a slot for the few who aren't.

Starting to see the same thing in the 82nd... and then some units within not on status.
