Hello, my name is Jonathan Knight. I'm 18 years old and I'm from Bossier City, Louisiana.
Let me give you some background on myself. I attended College this year as a Business major. After being in there for a year I determined that it wasn't what I wanted in my life at this point. I've been obsessed with the Military since I was a kid. Once I determined that College wasn't for me, I decided to enlist.
The Airborne has always been the group that appealed to me the most. Ever since I read about the 82nd and 101st Airborne in WWII, it's been a dream of mine to join them.
I visited an Army Recruiter Monday and I'm set to go to MEPS at the end of the month to take the ASVAB. Unfortunately my old score of 92 expired in March.
I'm here to learn anything and everything I can from you Veterans.

| Welcome! FYI - It's possible to be both a Paratrooper AND a college student. To do so, you need to find out what Airborne units are in the Guard or Reserve near your location. I highly recommend this method of joining the military. Good luck, what ever you decide!

| Welcome to the site. There is a lot of info in the Recruiting Information forum for new recruits. I would go to one of the large bookstores and see if they have a study guide for the ASVAB(they used to sell them). Get one if you can and study it. You may already know this but just to make sure, the 101st is no longer on jump status. While there are a couple of companies of Pathfinders in the Division, competition to get in them is fierce. The 82nd probably has less than half of the Airborne slots for the Army, although it has around fifty percent of the Airborne Infantry slots. So know what you want when you go to MEPS.
Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American GI. One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

509Trooper (5/14/2008) So know what you want when you go to MEPS.
Amen to that. That is probably the most important advice you'll hear. The people at MEPS are there to find a body to fill an open slot, so that's what they'll do. This is not to say there aren't good, helpful, knowledgeable, ethical people who work at MEPS, but there are also people with qualities on the opposite end of the spectrum and everywhere in-between.
Explore all of your options, take your time, don't let anyone push you into something you don't want. You've only got one life here on earth, so why not live it doing something you WANT to do. Hooah?

Welcome to the site; I hope you find the information here that you need.
I'm Surprised Panama's still sea level, after all the Push Ups I did down there.

Thanks for all of your advice. I plan to go 11x option 4.
@509Trooper: I'm not too terribly worried about the ASVAB. I got an 80 on the practice. I plan to improve myself in the areas where I did bad on it.
I had heard that the 101st went to Air Assault. I was hoping to get into the 82nd anyway, so it's ok.
