I'd place a beer bet on the announcement being made on 14 Jun. Don't they usually like making these things on the army's birthday?

Here's Marlow White's take on things:

Dress Blue Uniform Change Update (6 Mar 08): GEN Casey has commented recently that an announcement concerning the Dress Blue Uniform Change is likely to occur early this summer. Our guess is that such an announcement would be on June 14 (Army's Birthday) as previous major uniform changes have been announced on that date. Currently, the "Class A" version of the Dress Blue is not implemented and the Class A Green Uniform is still in effect. Marlow White is NOT a member of the Army Uniform Board; however, the industry's expectations are that the Army's Dress uniform will become a variation of the current Dress Blue Uniform.

I still like "pinks and greens."  Nothing like a set of spitshined brown Corcorans to set them off.

The Army will do what it wants regardless what input the joes give.  Most have said the blues are not the way to go and the Army goes rolling along.  Blues look OK with a beret but strange with jumpboots.  There was a 50's Ranger, ret Col, here locally that had his Ranger tab on his blues.  When I pointed out the mistake to him his answer was quite simple:  Fuck it.  It looks good to me.  Later he had one of the new metal tabs on his pocket.  The sew on looked out of place but that's just me & my way of seeing it.  I can see 2 sets of blues - 1 for Class A with all patches & tabs & 1 for dress thats slick sleeved.  The grey shirt looks out of place, too.  Seems to look like some Air Force suit to me.

Since we where a color American flag in Garrison. I thought it wouldn't look bad to have color patches in Garrison as well.

Don't hate on me too much for suggesting that.

Actually it's hard to argue with that logic.  I presume that most units going into combat would "sterilize" their uniforms before going out right?  So if the patch is garrison-only, why not a full color patch?  Certainly it would be a benefit to the supply system as you could get rid of all the subdued patches altogether.

Check out the movie "Gardens of Stone" to see stateside GIs wearing the old green "pickle suit" fatigues with full color nametapes, rank insignias, patches and skill badges.

Edit:  What do you think?

Wow!! Now that's OLD SKOOL. We wore those when I first went in to the Army. The only difference was the Army had replaced the white name tape and full color US Army name tape with subdued versions shortly before I reported to boot camp.

Good movie by the way.

I am now of the opinion that no decision will be announced until the Army gets a new SMA.  That may be good news as it would mean that Gen. Casey doesn't want to announce something that would directly contradict the plan set forth by SMA Preston.

Well here is a brand new officially authorized US Army (INARNG) patch designed by... yours truly...

It's the 219th BfSB's (Battlefield Surveillance Brigade) SSI. The Airborne tab is worn by the LRSC and it's parent SRB (Surveillance & Reconissance Battalion)

Every aspect of this patch has significant meaning with regards to it's Airborne, Ranger, LRP and LRS lineage...

~ The shape and black outline is exactly that of the old Recondo patch.

~ The Blue / Red divide is a match the 38th Infantry Div. SSI that the LRS wore for over 20 years.

~ The 3 lighting bolts signify the three means of insertion behind enemy lines that LRS is capable of: Sea, Air & Land.

~ The coloring of the lightning bolts is Ranger Gold to represent it's Ranger past and adherence to US Army Ranger standards throughout it's past.

~ The Black & Gold Airborne Tab is to represent the Black and Gold Ranger Scroll that the Indiana LRS's heraldry with the 75th Ranger Regiment. The Indiana LRS / "Indiana Rangers" / D. Co Ranger / Company D. LRP (ABN) / 151st LRS-D / Co. C. 2-152 CAV (LRS)(ABN) is the only acknowledged "Ranger Scroll" by said 75th RRA that has Ranger Gold lettering instead of white lettering.

~ The sword is a respect of the sword that was on the 2nd Field Force SSI that D. Co Ranger / LRP wore in Viet Nam. (With Black and Gold Airborne Tab) with the only change that of it being blacked-out so to express the units foresight of being "Ghosts in the Darkness" or "in the Shadows" as "sneaky peaky guys"

And, to top it all off, it looks pretty damn cool... If I do say so myself...

iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii's
