I meant why replace the 4-star in Iraq. Seems a single 3-star is more than sufficient

A heck they gotta do something with all those Generals! I really don't kknow why they have a full general as the commander on the ground in Iraq. If I had to guess, my guess would be because it is a multinational force command.

Excellent choice to head CENTCOM. This places Gen. Patraeus in an excellent position to become head of the joint chiefs, chief of staff for McCain. From there the sky is the limit.

Two key military nominations were approved Thursday afternoon by the Senate Armed Services Committee. By voice vote, the committee approved Army Gen. David Petraeus to become the U.S. Central Command commander and approved Army Lt. Gen. Raymond Odierno to receive a fourth star and to succeed Petraeus as the Multi-National Force — Iraq commander. http://www.armytimes.com/news/2008/06/military_petraeus_odierno_062608w/
