KneesInTheBreeze (4/11/2008)
Luckily, I have documented almost everything that has happened to me. When I tore my groin in half and had to have surgery, you are darn straight that I kept all the paperwork on that. I did deny a PH for some small shrapnel wounds, though. I just didn't think it was worth it. All of my leaders up until now have stressed how important it is to get everything documented. Most of them have bum knees and backs from 15+ years of jumping, so I am definately following their advice. Take the PH!! If you were put in for it, you earned it. It does not require that you be missing parts Bro.. Wounds from combat are wounds. That is the significance of the PH. Definately keep ahold of your own copy of your records! I had some, but not all of mine and of course what I did not have the VA could not "find" until last year... It was right in my medical file at the VA too, fortunately the Doctor I last saw there saw it. So now when I get to have my shoulder reconstructed (again) I will be covered for it.

+1 on the PH. As I mentioned I wish I had said yes so that I could jam it into somebodies face at VA once in a while.
The hippo is unpredictable and aggressive with old scars and fresh, deep wounds providing signs of daily fights that are accompanied by much bellowing, neighing and snorting.

I understand what all of you are saying, but after seeing some of my best friends take the ultimate sacrifice, I just couldn't accept one for what happened to me. I think the round that cracked my front plate hurt more than the shrapnel. But alas, it is too late for me to try to get the PH again. Our squadron commander put me up for it, and I turned it down. It's now been over 2 years since then, so it's too late. I can live without it. The one reason I wish I would have accepted it is for the points...

| Bro it's not to late. I don't know where that comes from. Yes initially there is a time limit, but those can be waived if a congressional gets involved. Look at all the stories about vets receiving awards YEARS after the fact. My uncle was wounded in Nam and didn't die and he wears his with pride. A PH is for wounds in combat, not just dying for ones country. So quit being a hard headed dick. You and GH giterdun and put in for those PHs ya'll deserve. Besides use it to your advantage with the VA. If your medical records back it, you earned it.

That's right like Al suggested put in for that PH; cause you have to use whatever you can to get what you deserve from the VA.
I'm Surprised Panama's still sea level, after all the Push Ups I did down there.
