It's time to start making your plans for next year.  The 2008 Reunion for the 509th Parachute Infantry Association will be at Columbus/Ft. Benning.   The down side is that it looks like the only time rooms will be available will be in July.  Stay tuned for more details as they develop.

I now have a few more details for the Reunion next year.  It will be from Wednesday, July 9th through Saturday, July 12th(the room block goes until Sunday the 13th) at the Hilton Garden Inn in Columbus, Georgia.  Room rates will be $99/night.  Details on an active duty jump in and other events on Ft. Benning are still being worked out.

Attaching the registration flyer for the Reunion this year.  If you have problems with it let me know and I will e-mail it to you.

I am trying to talk my Dad into going to this reunion. He is not in the best of health but is now 84 and one of the last of the WW11 509 PIR.  My husband is a retired Navy Chief and has been the one to get him to talk the most about the War.  We didn't even know my Dad was awarded the silver star.  I live in Florida and he is in Delaware so will try. It would be good for him.

I was reminded that I need to post a schedule of events for the Reunion.  Things are still being finalized but here is what I have as of right now:

July 9th and 10th will be registration and meeting in the hospitality room.  Nothing official on tap for those two days.  There is a shuttle that runs from the hotel to a mall on the north side of Columbus.

July 11th is the trip to Benning.  We will attend the graduation at the Airborne Walk by Eubanks Field.  The graduation is set for 0900 hours.  After graduation we will have a little time there at Eubanks Field and we will have lunch there.  After lunch there will be a short trip to the location of the new Infantry Museum.  While the Museum won't be open yet the World War II company street should be open to the public.  They have some WWII barracks, an old chapel and Gen. Patton's old HQ.  That afternoon the active duty soldiers will jump at Fryar DZ.

July 12th will be the general membership meeting later that morning.  That night will be the final banquet.  Expect the hospitality room to be open when other events aren't planned.

I want to wish all of my 509 Brothers and their families, that all will have a great time at this year's reunion.

I'm sorry that once again I'll not be able to join you in our celebration but want you to know that I'll be there in spirit.

To all of my Animal Farm brothers, I'll miss seeing you and hope that in the future I'll be able to hook-up with once again!

All the Way!

May I ask who your father is as I am looking for anyone from the 509th who was on a patrol outside of Isola, France in Sept 44.  Mr. Blackwood was on this patrol and was awarded the Slilver Star and wondering if it was him.
