McLaney DZ

"American Parachutists...devils in baggy pants...are less than 100 meters from my outpost line. I can't sleep at night; they pop up from nowhere and we never know when or how they will strike next. Seems like the black-hearted devils are everywhere..."
(An entry in a German officer's diary found after the Battle of Anzio)

I think the water wings are just for the officers. I have pics of my huey jump there in '99 and we weren't wearing them. But we all know that Rigger officers are the most dangerous jumpers on the planet.

Great pics and yes we wore water wings for every jump down in Panama; cause guys did end up in the Ocean or Gatun Lake down there.

I'm Surprised Panama's still sea level, after all the Push Ups I did down there.

Ahh, water wings. When I was stationed in Pusan, our DZ was right next to  the Naktong river. The river was on 3 sides of the DZ, so obviously we jumped with water wings. We even had 'boat duty'. A few guys, and girls, I might add, would get into the 2 john boats we had, to retrieve jumpers in the water if they landed off of the DZ. We actually bribed one guy to land in the river, in January! Keep in mind that this is the third most polluted river in the world. He did it for 20 bucks.

Blue Skies, Black Death. We're off to see our maker!
