| Does anyone have family who were in the 504th PIR Headquaters Company. My daddy is 91 this year and still want say to much about what happen. He will tell the same stories I heard as a kid all were funny except the one about his plane getting shot down by our navy. He says only four of them got out the rest went down with the plane. Daddy was listed as MIA it took three weeks before he got back to the 504th. His officers were Col. Tucker, Capt Camosa, Lt. Higger, Lt. Carmichal. Does anyone know any of these men or anyone who was in this group Sincerely son of a Paratrooper

| Welcome to the site. I think we have a few here who had fathers or grandfathers that were Paratroopers in WWII, but I don't remember anyone specifically who was in the 504th. Many of us have spent a considerable amount of money and time reading up on Airborne history, so if you have general questions about the 504th someone may be able to answer. We can definately point towards a number of books that would give you a lot of background, if you haven't already read them. But based on my experiences with WWII vets you really need to go to a Reunion or other event where these men are present. I have found that the best way to get these men to open up is to get with them personally and talk to them. If your father is able and willing you may take him to a 504th PRCT Reunion where he can talk to others he knew or at least served during the same period. That may make it easier for him to talk to you and other members of your family, as well. In any event, good luck with your quest.

| Col. Tucker was the regimental commander of the 504. He died back in 1970: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reuben_Henry_Tucker_III And your father was right. The Navy did shoot down a lot of planes carrying the 504 for a drop into Sicily. It was one of the worst friendly-fire incidents in U.S. history

| There is a book titled "All The Way To Berlin". It was written by Lt. Col. James Megella. He was known as Maggie to all who knew him. He was a Lt. in H company, 3rd Battalion, 504th PIR, 82nd Airborne Div. from Sicily, Anzio, Holland, to the end of the war in Berlin. From what I know, he is still alive today. You might be able to contact him through the Internet. The book is fascinating and faced paced and written by one who was part of it all. He got in touch with many that served with him to add their commentary, and their names and current locations are in the book. I hope this helps in your search. Please thank your grandfather for his service. Ted
All the way, sir!!!
