Don't know if any of you subscribe to the email or visit Chaplain Wood's blog 'Swordpoint' but I recommend it. Here's a good one

And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them.
Psalm 78:72

Before a road march out to the field, I stated to my platoon, “All right, this is a period of amnesty. If you have anything in your ruck you shouldn’t, bring it up front.” I could not believe the contraband that was being piled up at my feet (even a bottle of whiskey!). Just then, my commander walked by and noticed my little collection. He demanded to know the rightful owners of these prohibited items. I told him, “I’m sorry sir, but I told my men that this was a period of amnesty.” I knew I was in trouble at that point but I could not violate a promise made to my men. I took the heat that day, (and learned a better procedure for amnesty) but I gained the respect of my platoon by leading with integrity. SP198

I get it every day! Good little tidbits. Integrity these days is HUGE, not only at a personal level for everyone, but even more so for Christians - the enemy will use everything he an to discredit our witness. On a larger scale, the integrity of the gospel of Jesus Christ is also an issue today. Perhaps one of the clearest statements of the gospel is presented by Paul 1 Corinthians: 1-6:

"1 Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2 By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. 3 For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6 After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep."

Is there anything there about 'your best life now', your 'purpose', God's wonderful plan for you', or 'God can't imagine heaven without us'? Today's gospel is all about us but Paul's gospel is all about Christ.

Good post, Rigger 82!

Mark, I particularly enjoyed that one too. Always nice when a leader acts like a leader!!!

"...my religious belief teaches me to feel as safe in battle as in bed. God has fixed the time for my death. I do not concern myself about that, but to be always ready, no matter when it may overtake me." He added, after a pause, looking me full in the face: "That is the way all men should live, and then all would be equally brave"
