Dennis, go over the Recruiters head.... taking him to another Recruiter probably is not an option, they have rules about location of the Recruit and what recruitng Office he goes through. If a recruiter knowingly takes someone from another recruiters AO it is poaching, and it causes a shit storm. The Recruiter sounds like a POS!

As far as I know MP is a 5yr enlistment. I have seen 2-3yr enlistments for them also but those are few and far between. If he wants MP have him tell the recruiter to call him when it opens.

Definately that recruiter sounds like he's FOS making him a POS for sure; so I'm in agreement with all the others who've advised you to check out the NG or even the AF cause as a SP you basically do the same duties an MP just at a different locale an AFB usually. Todays war on terror has changed that dynamic dramatically, but tell your friend's son to stick to his guns and not to let that recruiter push him in to something he doesn't want. If he doesn't want Infantry or Armor and that is all that POS is offering go to someone else; like the NG Recruiter or the AF Recruiter and see what they can offer him. I hope he gets what he wants, nothing steams me more than someone getting screwed over; and please keep us posted cause I only hope the best for this young man.
I'm Surprised Panama's still sea level, after all the Push Ups I did down there.

I am not sure if they changed it but the requirement has changed at least once over the last couple of years. It used to be a requirement that you had to enlist for 5 years. Than in 2002 they started letting guys enlist for 2 years. I had about 5 of them in my PLT. Unless they have changed it back he can enlist for 2 years as an MP. THe only problem is they will call him back within the first couple of years on IRR. I already know 5 of those 2 year guys who have been pulled back in.

| Thanks for all of the input. I have relayed the G2 and we're going to see what happens Monday at the MEPS thing. I told him to tell them to call him when they have what he wants, but he's still trying to absorb how much of what the recruiter told him was a lie. You know kids........if it's on TV or the government says it then it MUST be true.............

| Just wondering how it went at MEPS? Asked a current recruiter and he sent this reply: MP is a 5 year enlistment. 11X however, is not ARMOR, and obviously, you don't just up and change someone's MOS.
He NEEDS to renegotiate his contract with something showing either 31B (MP) or 19-series for armor, otherwise he'll be kicking in doors as a grunt 11-series. Hope this helps.

| A year and a half or so ago I had signed a contract for 8 years with the Marines while in DEP.... That year has been up and I had asked to be dropped from DEP. If I had not been dropped or have I wanted to know if it would bring up a code red for trying to get in the Army. I want to join Army as an MP but I am now worried that this contract stuff while a DEP poolee may have me screwed. Please help!
