Ok people, time to start thinking about the convention. Paraglide is hitting mailboxes and with it, the reminder that NOW is the time to secure reservations etc.

The event is Wed August 13 - Sun August 17

Venue is the Millenium Hotel

Discount Event Rate: $85/night

As always here at Paratrooper.net we aim to make this site about squaring away our fellow troopers so since the HH6 and I have JUST secured our reservation I am making the following intel report for your benefit.

  • Make use of TripAdvisor and like websites, read the reviews people and avoid suprises that can ruin a trip. Click here for specific intel on this venue
  • The $85/night rate gets you into the SOUTH building. This building from all information I have is a few stories tall and hasnt undergone the renovation that all the pictures show. Those renovations involve the NORTH TOWER.
  • Discount rate can be applied to upgraded rooms, based on the information I am providing here, we secured a club level room for $125/night. This puts you up high in the North Tower, renovated rooms, likely a better view, complimentary continental breakfast and afternoon appetizers
  • Parking is across street and included with room per this package. No fee and no in/out issues so if you're driving, you dont have to stress that parking will be an issue if you want to drive around on your own.
  • Sounds like the SUITES are low on the North Tower which means thats where the active duty chapters will be setting up shop as well as a few other groups (like golden brigade). I dont know what the walk is like but seems like being in the same tower means just a walk to an elevator vs a trip across to the other building.

Ok, more intel as it comes in... feel free to post other questions, comments or inside info if you're in the area or have been here before.

I CANNOT stress enough that it is NOW that you should secure your reservations, they will hold with no lock on your credit card. You have up to 3 days before the event to cancel the reservation at the hotel. I dont know what capacity is but I know that overflow hotel issues are always an issue with people and most of the time its because they failed to act NOW and simply call in the reservation. Dont be a LEG and screw it up this year.

Wow!  Three major US Airborne conventions a year and the 508th hasn't even gotten theirs together yet (I guess they believe they own all three? )  Is this what retired people do?  (April, May and August)

For us working stooges we have to pick and choose the ones we go to. Mine is easy of course but if I ever hit the big time or had my own biz to be flexible... Id go to them all.

I reserved my room.....I also took Mark's advice and upgraded.  I'm not sure if I'm gonna get a rental car.  I wasted the money on one in Harrisburg....I only drove to and from the airport so.....I may have a parking pass for someone to use.

Update: I spoke with Bytor who is saying that he booked a North Tower Superior room for the $85 rate. He setup the reservation a while ago and will call again to confirm so there are no suprises. If thats the case then just make sure you tell them that you want North Tower and superior (or better).

This one is in driving distance so it makes it more doable, but I will not be able to make a final decision for at least a couple of months.  I am hoping to go, though.

Bytor is correct.  When I made my reservation last night, I said I wanted a room in the North tower.  For the $85 rate, I booked a superior queen room in the North tower.  I then called this morning to upgrade to the club level.....bigger room, breakfast every morning, and parking is included (it's $13 a day).
