Goats eating the grass must be SOP, because we had them at the Ft Campbell ASP also. One of them was pretty protective of his females and used to chase us around. I heard he ended up being the main course at a BBQ. After he was gone I think we only had females. Best incident I ever had pulling guard duty was during a QRF exercise in 88 or 89. I was an SPC in charge of guarding the front door of the Bn TOC. Some Lt Col from Div came down and thought he had the right to just blow right by me and walk on in, like he owned the place. After I put my 16 against his chest to stop him he started threating me with all kinds of UCMJ action. He was screaming his head off at me, I almost started laughing at him. Right then my Bn SGM Nichols came out to see what the commotion was, the Lt Col started saying I should be relieved and have charges brought against me for physically barring him entrance to our TOC. To make this long story a little shorter, SGM Nichols sent the officer packing told him to go get the proper documents he needed to enter the secured area, after the jerk of an officer stormed off the SGM gave me an atta boy. About an hour later the Ltc came back with smoke damm near coming out of his ears and presented me the required pass, then he spent about all of two minutes in the TOC and left.

| Oh, yeah. Guard the ASP, guard Finance Center, guard SASP, guard IRF loads. The shit doesn't change. From PVT to Cpt I had some kind of guard duty. The stories associated with guards of any rank are always hilarious and usually initiated by someone speaking of the stupidity of the OD/Bn-Installation Cdr/somebody getting laid. The SASPs like those at Campbell, Germany or in Korea (we had nukes in Korea!?!?!?) had some of the best stories. I think I had those same brass 12 ga shells at one time, too. They must have re-upped for an overseas assignment. They were probably WW I vets, too. The goats are non-sparking lawn mowers.

| Down in Panama we had ASP Guard, but down there it was called The Tank Farm and usually the Marines did that there. Heck that's where that Marine was killed in that firefight or "whatever" happened back in Feb. 88', while I was still at the 5/87th still before going over to the 1/508th in July that year. I remember that night well, because we went balls to the wall getting almost all loaded up and "ready to go" but nothing happened because apparently "nothing was found" by the reaction teams that responded from the 1/508th that night or so we were told as we waited all night out in the parking lot all loaded up with our ammo and weapons. Later on when I came over to C 1/508th we got tasked with pulling a week of guard duty out a the Tank Farm and let me tell you how boring that place was, thankfully the Marines usually pulled that assignment instead of the Army. Hell, the first night there my SQD LDR SSG Victoria tells me, "Flagg and 2 others go man the front gate tonight." Waling down the dirt road toward the front gate I ask my buddy Mike M. "if he has any cash on him," to which he replies "yep, what do I have in mind?" Being the Muldoon PFC that I was then I'm like the guard shack has a phone right, and think we can call Su Pizza do you think they deliver?" Well, let me tell you this here we were that night guarding the Tank Farm from whoever and Su Pizza does delivers cause we did Eat Well that night.
I'm Surprised Panama's still sea level, after all the Push Ups I did down there.

At Ft Cambell we used to be able to get Dominios to deliver to a eight digit grid!

| Man do I remember BLSA in the 509th! When I was short I stayed back from the field and I had to pull guard duty because no one was left in garrison. There was a guy at BLSA pulling guard duty with me that used to work out there. (He was fired from working at BLSA for smoking hash) Anyway, in the middle of the night he asks me if I wanted to look in the bunkers. Hell yes! He explained that the double doors slid together and if we pushed both doors either right or left it would slide open. Since the doors were real heavy we got the third guard to help us and we pushed on both the double doors to the right and the bunker opened right up!! Holy Cow!!! I was freaking out! The doors were still locked together but they both slid open together. How stupid! There were brand new M60's, M16's, grenades, everything brand new in crates for our basic load. I could not believe it was so easy to get inside the bunkers. It was a good thing I left in the next month because my roommates and I in weapons squad would have volunteered for guard duty to get some of that cool stuff. I figured they since they inventoried about every 6 months by the time they noticed it was missing, they wouldn't have a clue. Just didn't know how to get it home. One other time I was on QRF or IRF and we were called out to BLSA in the middle of the night by one of the guards. He said there was someone in the perimeter. After spending hours climbing up and down those hills it turned out to be the sheep they put out there to eat the grass. After that I always wanted to shoot one. (Of the sheep) "I told him to halt but it just kept coming!" Seems like yesterday.
