For the second time in just two and a half years, a gunman has killed a Huntsville police officer in the line of duty.

William Eric Freeman, 36, died at 9:38 a.m. Saturday after he was shot in the head at what first seemed to be a routine traffic accident Friday night.

The man who shot him was apparently an engineer on Redstone Arsenal and has volunteered to go to Iraq and Afghanistan on issues related to the CH-47.

RIP, Officer.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American GI.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

Rest in peace. The thin blue line got a little thinner.

RIP Officer.
