Hello All,

Word from the Executive Director of the 82nd Association is that they plan to close and pull charter from Swamp Fox Chapter.  The reason given was because we have 14 members ( all Life ) but no annual members paid.  He stated that the chapter must maintain 20 active members.

So my question is this:  Since when did the association go on the Calander year?  From my years in the association all dues must be in by July for proper account for annual Convention.  At the convention 4 months ago we had 21 members......now he said we have just 14.  He also stated that I said " That I would increase membership " and called me on it.  I do not recall during the ND meeting during my speech saying anything about membership.

Further:  While a ND, I made more contact and help reestablish a chapter in the Midwest by getting a trooper involved.

So any thoughts?  SOME ND's out there that can provide some information?  I think if I recall correctly that it would have to be a Committee approval to pull a charter.?

Individual membership runs from January 1 through December 31, but I thought as far as Chapters go it was much later.  This sounds a little strange.  If you had 21 members at the Convention how can you only have 14 now unless 7 transferred out?  No one is delinquent until January 1 of the new year and Paraglide subscriptions remain in effect until after the first issue of next year(I think officially March 1 for members).

EVEN if they wished to pull the charter, they have to do so with board approval. In order to do that they'll have to present this to the board at AA week (end of May) then if no change has been made and the roster is still under the required 20 the final full board vote would be in August.

So for the most part, they have the greater part of 8 months to square the issue away and find six more joes.

I dont see the association actually willfully going after a charter for being under the 20. Frankly as long as they get thier paperwork in I would be of a mind to put them on a list of chapters in crisis where the National Association would assign committee members, ND etc to work to help shore the chapter up.

Shuttering a chapter should be the absolute last thing the association should wish to do.

On a similar note regarding membership that keeps coming to my attention.

The association should strive to make active duty troopers members a veteran chapter either near home of record or there at Fayetteville (choice of the trooper).

Since the active duty chapters are chapters in name only where the association has little or no record of anything but life members why focus on keeping them assigned there. Besides the reporting number once a year of how well the command staff did at getting members, it offers NO benefit to the new members.

I've broken this one off to its own discussion: http://www.paratrooper.net/commo/Topic248622-45-1.aspx
